I have found that the simplest techniques are the most effective for relieving anxiety, especially at the start of our healing journeys.

While there are many wonderful healing methods available to us with potential capacity to make us significantly less anxious or even heal anxiety disorders, we need some simplicity to inspire to adopt self-help in the beginning.

One of the best, simplest and natural methods I have found for dealing with anxiety is an ancient Hawaiian method of healing, called Ho'oponopono.

While the name sounds complex, everything else about Ho'oponopono is simple.

Ho'oponopono is the repetition of certain phrases and texts in an effort to clear the subconscious mind from bad memories.

According to Ho'oponopono, anxiety is the result of bad memories replaying themselves in the subconscious mind, and if we work to clear those memories, we can hope to achieve anxiety relief.

In this article, I am going to explain what is Ho'oponopono, how it helps to relieve anxiety, and what are 6 basic tools that you can use in your daily anxious life.

I have been practicing Ho'oponopono for anxiety since October 2014 and so I know from personal experience about its effectiveness.  If you are struggling with anxiety, I highly recommend that you read on.

The term “ho’oponopono” can be translated as “make it right” or “correct a mistake”.

Ho’oponopono tools aim to clear the subconscious mind from memories that its founders believe are the root cause of all physical, mental and/or emotional problems.

According to ho’oponopono principles, the more we practice to clear the subconscious mind, the more problems we can resolve in our lives.

In other words, those that use and teach ho'oponopono explain that

  • Your mental, physical and/or emotional problems, including anxiety, stem from bad memories replaying in your subconscious mind.
  • To relieve or heal your anxiety, you need to work on clearing any bad memories that are currently triggering your anxiety symptoms.
  • These memories can be cleared by repeating certain phrases and texts as outlined in the ho'oponopono teachings. These tools help to purify, clean or correct these memories.

History of Ho’oponopono

Ho’oponopono was traditionally used in ancient times by indigenous Hawaiians to solve family problems.

But in 1976 Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona, a gifted Hawaii healer (kahuna lapa’au), adapted the traditional ho’oponopono techniques to apply to modern problems and social realities. Simeona transferred her knowledge to Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len (Ph.D Psychology), and was honored a Living Treasure of Hawaii.

Dr. Hew Len held many workshops around the world, teaching about the ho’oponopono processes before he retired a few years ago. His workshops were hosted by Joe Vitale who has written a book called Zero Limits.

Thanks to Dr. Hew Len, there are now many approved ho’oponopono teachers that continue to spread the knowledge of this wonderful healing technique in various countries on every continent.

Ho'oponopono for Anxiety

The root cause of your anxiety can stem from a trauma or a bad experience that happened in your childhood or adulthood.

The teachings of ho’oponopono suggest that until you clear these memories, you are likely to keep experiencing anxiety.

But if you regularly practice clearing your memories using simple ho’oponopono techniques you can begin to clear some of your anxiety, and over time overcome anxiety

Of course, the more you practice, the more clearing or “cleaning” you will achieve.

I suffered from chronic anxiety for two decades and towards the end I reached a point where I could not go on any longer.

This is when I began making significant changes in my life including changes in diet, lifestyle, and self-care, but also I adopted journaling, affirmations, and ho’oponopono practices. On top of that I worked hard to learn to love myself.

Within a few years of truly committing to all of these practices I managed to overcome chronic anxiety.

It is hard to say which one of these methods helped me the most, but in truth I believe they all played a very important part. Though I have to say that ho’oponopono remains one of my favorite and dearest techniques which I recommend to every anxiety sufferer that I meet.

Ho'oponopono "Cleaning" Phrases, Texts & Tools

So, what are these ho'oponopono phrases and texts that you need to repeat to clear your subconscious mind?

There are many tools, phrases and texts that are practiced as part ho'oponopono.

But at the most basic level you can implement the following 6.

These are freely available either on the ho'oponopono website or the article written by Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len, Ph.D. both publicly available.

1. Repeat the Phrase "I Love You"

I LOVE YOU

This wonderful, yet simple, phrase, has unbelievable power to transform us. The more we repeat "I love you" the more we are clearing our subconscious mind.

I have practiced repeating this phrase so much over the years that it is now set on automatic in my mind, and I naturally repeat it constantly throughout the day.

In fact, I am saying it in my mind right now as I write this article! 🙂

“I Love You” can be repeated quietly again and again. Memories never go on vacation or retire unless you retire them. “I Love You” can be used even if you are not conscious of problems. For example, it can be applied before engaging in any activity such as making or answering a telephone call or before getting into your car.

2. Repeat the Phrase "Thank You"

THANK YOU

You can repeat "Thank you" either in place of "I love you" or say the two phrases together. Both phrases have the power to clear your subconscious mind.

This process [Thank You ] can be used with or in place of “I Love You.” As with “I Love You,” it can be repeated mentally again and again.

You might also be interested to know that there is a lot of scientific evidence on the health benefits of gratitude. According to Harvard Medical School,

In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships

– Harvard Medical School

Is ho'oponopono really that simple?

It sounds too simple, right?

I completely understand if you feel this way. I was wondering the same when I first heard about these two tools.

But rather than asking you to believe me, let me try to demonstrate.

ACTION 1

Take a deep breath, close your eyes and repeat " I love you, thank you" 50 times in your mind.

How do you feel?

If you don't feel any different,

ACTION 2

Try by repeating " I love you, thank you" another 50 times in your mind.

Do you feel any anxiety relief?

If you don't feel any anxiety relief, you've not wasted your time.

The teachings of ho'oponopono explain that we don't need to feel anything, rather we only need to repeat the phrases, and the clearing will automatically happen on the subconscious level.

The only reason I asked you to try these two actions is because during my practice I realized that when I repeated those phrases I also felt instant anxiety relief.

But that was just a bonus. More importantly, over time I managed to overcome my chronic anxiety.

3. Read and Repeat the Text “I Am The I”

The following text entitled “I Am The I” can be repeated each morning, or as many times as you like throughout the day.

I have a print out of of this text in in my journal which I take with me wherever I go.

“I” Am The “I”

“I” come forth from the void into light,
“I” am the breath that nurtures life,
“I” am that emptiness, that hollowness beyond all consciousness,
The “I”, the Id, the All.
“I” draw my bow of rainbows across the waters,
The continuum of minds with matters.
“I” am the incoming and outgoing of breath,
The invisible, untouchable breeze,
The undefinable atom of creation.
“I” am the “I”.

4. Read and Repeat “The Peace of I” Text

The following text entitled “The Peace of I” can be repeated each evening, or as many times as you like throughout the day.

As with "I am the I", I have a copy of this text in my journal.

The Peace Of “I”

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
The Peace that is “I”, the Peace that is “I am”.
The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
My Peace “I” give to you, My Peace “I” leave with you,
Not the world’s Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of “I”.

5. Drink Blue Solar Water

Drinking blue solar water is one of the key ho'oponopono tools for clearing the subconscious mind.

Simply pour tap water into a blue glass bottle with a nion-mental lid and place on your windowsill or under a lamp for at least an hour. This is how you get "blue solar water".

Then you only need one drop of blue solar water to purify any other water or liquid that you are consuming. I.e., one drop of solar water in your bath, one drop in your tea, and etc.

Drinking lots of water is a wonderful problem solving practice, particularly if it is Blue Solar Water. Get a blue glass container with a non-metallic cover. Pour tap water into the container. Place the blue glass container either in the Sun or under a lamp for at least an hour. After the water is solarized, it can be used in several ways. Drink it. Cook with it. As a rinse after a bath or shower. Fruits and vegetables love being washed in blue solar water! As with “I Love You” and “Thank You” processes, Blue Solar Water voids memories replaying problems in the Subconscious Mind. So, drink away!

Dr Ihaleakala Hew Len, Ph.D

You can buy these blue bottles on Amazon. I have included the details below.

You can get these small 4 bottles and keep one at work, one in your handbag, one in the kitchen and one in your bedroom. It is important that the lid is plastic. Do not use glass or metal lids for your bottle. Buy on Amazon

6. Eat Strawberries and Blueberries

Dr Hew Len has many fun cleaning tools, but this has to be one of my favorites as I personally love strawberries and blueberries. Add these berries to your oatmeal, smoothies, or snacks as often as possible.

These fruits [Strawberries and Blueberries]  void memories. They can be eaten fresh or dried.

Taking Ho’oponopono Further

If you interested in learning more about ho'oponopono methods and all of its processes, phrases, texts and tools you can take their Basic I course advertised on their website.  I took the Basic I course in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2014 and have been practicing this method ever since.

Important Points to Note

  • The only GENUINE website for the ho'oponopono course developed by Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona and updated by Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len, Ph.D.  is https://www.self-i-dentity-through-hooponopono.com. If you see a ho'oponopono course advertised on any other website, this is a non-approved course.
  • I am not an affiliate for this course. I am only sharing the details with you to ensure that you have the correct details.

You can also read the book “Zero Limits by Joe Vitale”. Joe Vitale has hosted many workshops for Dr Hew Len while he toured around the world teaching Ho'oponopono. But please note that this book is not a substitute for the course, which Joe Vitale also reiterates in his book.

If, however, you don’t want to explore further, then you can simply use the 6 basic ho'oponopono tools outlined above and that in itself is amazing.

Applying Ho’oponopono Tools in Your Daily Anxious Life

The amazing thing about ho'oponopono tools is that it is very easy to apply them while getting on with your daily tasks and responsibilities.

What to Do When Feeling Anxious About Going to Work, Meeting or Out of the House?

  • Read "I am the I" and "The Peace of I" texts first thing in the morning
  • Put a drop of blue solar water in a water bottle and carry everywhere with you.
  • Repeat “I love you, thank you” over and over again in your mind on your way to work, meeting, or wherever else you are going.
  • Drink water throughout the day that contains a drop of blue solar water
  • Keep a blue solar water bottle in your purse so that you always have blue solar drops available
  • Repeat "I love you, thank you" over and over again each time you go to the bathroom
  • Repeat “I love you, thank you” over and over again in your mind on your way home
  • Add blueberries or strawberries to your breakfast (Optional)
  •  Add a drop of blue solar water to your breakfast, lunch, dinner, bath, tea, and /or coffee (Optional)

Final Points on  Ho'oponopono for Anxiety Relief

In my experience, Ho'oponopono is one of the best, simplest and natural methods I have found for dealing with anxiety.

Ho'oponopono is the repetition of certain phrases, such as "I love you", and "Thank You" and texts, such as I am the I, and The Peace of I, in an effort to clear bad memories from the subconscious mind, that could be the cause of your anxiety.

According to Ho'oponopono, if you practice clearing your memories, you can relieve and heal anxiety.

There are many tools, phrases and texts that are practiced as part ho'oponopono. But at the most basic level you can implement the 6 outlined in this article which is amazing  enough and still very effective.
